SEWAGE SLUDGE UTILISATION IN GERMANY

Federal Law Gazette of 2017 PART 1 NO. 65 - ARTICLES 4 & 5

WHAT WILL GERMAN LEGISLATION ON THE RECYCLING OF SEWAGE SLUDGE LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE?

According to the ordinance, phosphorus must be recovered from sewage sludge from 1 January 2029. It is therefore up to the German municipal plant operators to carry out analyses of sewage sludge by 2023 and to introduce suitable measures for phosphorus recovery, as well as inputs and applications to soils and other disposal options. In 2027, the sewage sludge must be analysed once again. In the calendar year 2029, phosphorus must be recovered - land application and land disposal are still possible. From 2032, sewage sludge may no longer be spread on fields.

In order to meet the legal requirements, a rethink is necessary at the right time.

At Green Sentinel, we have developed a process that meets precisely these requirements - recovering phosphorus and other valuable raw materials and producing a green thermally recyclable substitute fuel from the remaining sludge through drying processes. A zero-discharge solution that also significantly reduces CO2 emissions.
