GREENSTART AWARD 2020

The unique digestion process of municipal sewage sludge convinced the jury at the Greenstart Award. This process transforms the otherwise expensive disposal of sewage sludge for water treatment plants into a lucrative business model. At the same time, the ecological footprint is significantly reduced and valuable raw materials such as phosphorus are recovered. The valuable end product is a purified biofuel, comparable to pellets, which, through clean combustion, makes the greatest potential of the sludge usable in a climate-friendly way: thermal energy.
